Tarryn Owen

I started going to children’s ballet classes at 4 years old at the Gaynor Harris Academy of Dance in Durban, South Africa. My love affair with ballet began there…

Once I had my ballet foundation, I also started studying modern, jazz, contemporary and national dancing. I was able to enjoy and excel in different dance forms.  I took part and won many dance competitions and awards (including Runner Up in the prestigious Mabel Ryan Award) and finished my examinations with Honours.  I represented my state in the Youth Ballet Company, working with many renowned teachers and choreographers.

I was privileged to dance professionally in the Nutcracker, Navidad Nuestra, Coppelia, The Firebird and other ballet classics with NAPAC Dance Company. I freelanced as a dancer and was able to travel extensively with various shows. I performed in various contemporary and musical theatre productions, including Cats, On Broadway and Around The World.

Naturally I wanted to gain my teaching qualifications, which I did in 1999. I have taught all ages; from children aged 3 to adults and have been privileged to nurture and help train many dancers.

I am delighted to have founded Surrey Dance School, creating an exciting and innovative dance school, striving for excellence.
