From 2014Surrey Dance School was founded in September 2014
We started with just a few ballet classes and then added our popular Funky Feet classes too. Once our children’s classes were established, we then added our Adult Dance courses, which run every Thursday evening during term time. These classes are great fun and cover a range of dance styles for everyone to try out.
As well as our Surrey Dance School classes, we also run a specialist nursery school dance programme, running 30 minute weekly classes within nursery schools. I have been running these classes for 4 years at Panda Nursery and am really excited to continue these popular dance classes at Panda’s, as well as at Felicity’s Nursery in Crockham Hill.
A highlight of each year has been performing at the Limpsfield Village Fete. It is a great opportunity for our young dancers to experience performing in front of an audience. We look forward to the event every year. We have also entered dancers for their Cecchetti Ballet examinations. I am extremely proud to have a 100% pass rate with outstanding results of only Distinctions and Merits!
In 2016 I launched our own school awards, Surrey Dance School Awards and I also launched our SDS workshops too. 2017 has seen us grow considerably and we put on our very first show, Wish Upon A Star! It was the highlight of the year and I am very proud of all the dancers who performed and took part.
It has been an amazing journey for our thriving dance school. Our aim is to inspire, encourage and nurture dancers through our fun classes and I am very excited for our next school year and what the future holds! We will be adding more classes and more events and it is so lovely to have such a loyal, hard working and enthusiastic school of dancers….
We follow and study the prestigious Cecchetti Method.
The Cecchetti Method was devised by Maestro Enrico Cecchetti (1850 – 1928). The Cecchetti method has a rich heritage and is taught worldwide.
Cecchetti trained dancers are known for their purity of line and are renowned for their strength and quick footwork. The method seeks to develop the essential skills of dance (e.g., balance, poise, strength, elevation, elasticity, and ballon) in students through a meticulously designed syllabus.
All ballet classes at Surrey Dance school follow the Cecchetti Method and principles. SDS is an active member of the ISTD. The ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing) promotes the Cecchetti method as a series of graded and vocational-graded examinations. Successful exam passes in the method can be submitted for credit towards other nationally recognised qualifications.
Surrey Dance School has a 100% pass rate and all our dancers have achieved outstanding results of Distinctions & Merits.
